An El Paso man, whose first trial was declared a mistrial, was sentenced to nearly two decades in prison after pleading guilty to decapitating his mother in 2017 at their West Side home.
Fernando Alarcon was sentenced to 17 years in prison in late July, after pleading guilty to manslaughter in connection with the death of his mother, 62-year-old Graciela Acosta Licon.
The sentencing comes as part of a plea agreement with state prosecutors. He was originally charged with murder.
